Marinated cod with french beans and beansprouts

Black cod

Is Friday fish day in your house? We have started the tradition a while ago. Because the kids eat fish and chips in school on Fridays if they have school lunches. They loved it at first, but the novelty has worn of and now I make packed lunches on a Friday and we have fish and sometimes chips for tea on a Friday. Today is just fish, no chips.

Black cod

This marinated cod is called daddy’s fish in our house because he is the one who usually makes it. He had Black Cod in the famous Japanese restaurant Nobu and he absolutely loved it. So he tried to make something similar at home and it soon turned out to become the favourite way of eating fish in this house.  We all love it!

The skinned cod fillet is marinated in a sauce based on soya sauce.  That is our weak point, we all love soya sauce, but it does contain quite a lot of salt, so we have to be careful not to exaggerate. Apart from soya sauce, you will also need miso and mirin. You may need to get passed the Asian aisle in your super market or, even better to an Asian food shop if you have one in the area. It is Japanese we are after here.

The fish needs to sit in the marinade for a few hours so the flavours can get into the fish really nicely. Pim usually makes the marinade in the mornings when we are cooking the fish for supper. Today we are having the cod with steamed french beans and sautéed beansprouts. You could also add some fried rice if you like.

Enjoy! I hope this dish is a success in your house too!
